Building Communities Through Arts & Heritage

The Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program was created to help you celebrate your community, its past and its present. The Program will increase opportunities, through festivals or other events and activities, for your local artists and artisans to be involved in their community and for local groups to commemorate your local history and heritage.

Eligible events and activities must be local - created by and for your community. They must be open and accessible to the public and strongly encourage and promote the participation of everyone in your community.

The Program has two components:

Local Arts and Heritage Festivals
Festivals, events and activities that involve your whole community, give opportunities to local artists and artisans and/or celebrate local history and heritage.

Community Historical
Anniversaries Programming One-time commemoration through festivals or other activities that celebrate a major anniversary of a significant local person or event.

Green City Awards

An important part of making our communities greener and healthier places to live is the recognition of those innovative local governments that are making a difference, designing sustainable and vibrant communities that encourage physical activity, energy conservation, and produce environmental benefits.

The LiveSmart BC Green Cities Awards profile these leading-edge communities, and provide them with the funds to invest further in initiatives that make their environment even greener and healthier for their citizens.
Up to $500,000 annually is being provided to local governments in a series of categories. In order to reward those who are actively and effectively initiating change, entries are evaluated on how well the local government’s actions over the past couple of years meet the award criteria.
