Dawson Creek Named Finalist for Two National Sport Tourism Awards
Dawson Creek, BC — The City of Dawson Creek has been named a finalist in two categories at the 2026 Sport Tourism Canada PRESTIGE Awards for hosting the 2025 Para Cup.
The Sport Tourism Canada PRESTIGE Awards recognize Canada’s top sport tourism events and initiatives each year. Dawson Creek is shortlisted for:
- International Sport Event of the Year – Group B (Budget Less Than $2M)
- Sport Event Legacy of the Year
Both nominations highlight the impact of the 2025 Para Cup, which brought elite para hockey athletes to Dawson Creek and introduced many residents to adaptive sport at the highest level.
“We’re honoured to see the Para Cup recognized nationally,” said General Manager of Community Services Ryan MacIvor. “The event showed what’s possible when a community, volunteers, and partners work together to host world-class sport.”
The recognition comes as the Canadian Paralympic Team is competing internationally in Milan, drawing national attention to adaptive sport. Events like the Para Cup help build awareness, create opportunities for athletes, and inspire future participation in communities across Canada.
The 2025 Para Cup was delivered in partnership with Hockey Canada, a long-standing relationship the City of Dawson Creek is proud to have.
“Working with Hockey Canada to bring the Para Cup to Dawson Creek was an incredible experience,” said Mayor Darcy Dober. “It showed that smaller communities can host major events and create lasting impact for athletes and fans.”
Winners will be announced March 11, 2026 at the PRESTIGE Awards Gala in Mississauga, Ontario during the annual Sport Events Congress.
