September Newsletter: A Summer to Remember at Mile 0
As another busy summer season begins to wind down, Tourism Dawson Creek has had the pleasure of welcoming travelers from across Canada, the United States, Europe, Australia, and beyond. For many, Dawson Creek marked the beginning of their Alaska Highway journey. Others stopped to explore local attractions, attend events, and discover what makes Dawson Creek and the Peace Region such a unique place to visit.
Expanding Our Reach: Two Tourism Locations
This summer provided a unique opportunity for Tourism Dawson Creek as visitor services were offered from two locations.
The Main Visitor Centre welcomed guests from its new downtown location beside the World Famous Mile 0 Post, while the Mobile Visitor Centre operated primarily from NAR Park and attended a variety of special events throughout the season.
Having two tourism locations allowed our team to connect with visitors where they were, making tourism information more accessible and increasing our visibility throughout the community. Whether guests were looking for attractions, accommodations, local events, dining recommendations, or trip-planning assistance, our team was ready to help.
Operating from both locations also allowed Tourism Dawson Creek to support local businesses, promote community events, and encourage visitors to spend more time exploring the city and the wider Peace Region.
Five Days at the Dawson Creek Exhibition & Stampede
One of the highlights of August was Tourism Dawson Creek's participation in the Dawson Creek Exhibition & Stampede.
Over five days, staff connected with residents and visitors from across the province and beyond, sharing information about local attractions, events, accommodations, outdoor recreation opportunities, and experiences throughout the Peace Region.
As part of the inaugural Community Square, Tourism Dawson Creek hosted a Dawson Creek trivia game that filled the bleachers with enthusiastic participants. Contestants tested their knowledge of local history, landmarks, and community facts, with prizes awarded to the winners.
The Stampede continues to be an important opportunity to promote Dawson Creek and connect directly with travellers planning their next adventure. Through conversations, visitor information services, and promotional materials, staff encouraged guests to discover local attractions, support local businesses, and explore more of what the region has to offer.
Peace Region Community-to-Community Poker Ride
Tourism Dawson Creek partnered with the Chetwynd Visitor Centre to support the Peace Region Community-to-Community Poker Ride.
The event encouraged motorcycle enthusiasts to travel throughout the Peace Region while stopping at participating communities and visitor centres along the route. Initiatives like this showcase the value of regional partnerships and help highlight the diverse tourism experiences available throughout Northern British Columbia.
Sharing the Dawson Creek Story
Tourism Dawson Creek continued its successful Caravan Presentation program throughout the 2026 season, welcoming tour groups and organized travelers to community facilities across the city.
Between May and August, Tourism Dawson Creek delivered 19 caravan presentations, providing visitors with a warm welcome and an introduction to Dawson Creek, the Peace Region, and the Famous Alaska Highway. These presentations offered an opportunity to share the history of Mile 0, highlight local attractions and experiences, and provide practical visitor information to help guests make the most of their journey.
Hosted in community facilities throughout Dawson Creek, the presentations allowed staff to engage directly with travelers from a variety of destinations and backgrounds. These presentations make Dawson Creek a memorable stop along the Alaska Highway for these visitors.
Caravan presentations continue to be an important tourism touchpoint, creating personal connections with visitors while encouraging exploration. The program provides valuable opportunities to answer questions, share recommendations, and ensure visitors leave with a positive impression of Dawson Creek and the Peace Region.
