Whether you're exploring with toddlers, teens, or grandparents in tow, Dawson Creek offers a variety of fun, safe, and memorable experiences for families of all sizes and ages. From historical adventures and outdoor play to art activities and wildlife encounters, there’s something here for every kind of explorer.

Historic NAR Park

Let the kids explore at two of Dawson Creek’s most iconic attractions:

  • Dawson Creek Art Gallery – Housed in a repurposed grain elevator, this unique gallery often hosts kid-friendly exhibits and activities.
  • Northern Alberta Railway (NAR) Station Museum – Climb aboard vintage railcars, explore pioneer-era exhibits, and learn about the railroad's role in shaping the Peace Country.

Kin Park and Rotary Recreation Park

Two of the most popular local hangouts, Kin Park and Rotary Recreation Park offer a wide range of family fun:

  • Kin Park includes: walking trails, multi-use sport courts (pickleball, tennis, basketball, volleyball), an accessible playground, a sledding hill, and plenty of green space for lawn games.
  • Rotary Recreation Park includes: a misting pad, a pump track and a playground. This park is park of the Mile 0 Park, which includes the Walter Wright Pioneer Village – a fun, historical site for all ages.

Indoor fun at the South Peace Community Multiplex

When the weather turns chilly or wet, take the adventure indoors:

  • Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre – Located inside the multiplex, the Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre (KBAC) has a lazy river, diving boards, a waterslide, sauna, hot tub, lane pool, leisure pool and more. View the pool schedule at www.dawsoncreek.ca/pool.
  • Indoor Climbing Wall – Located at the Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre, this is a great challenge for active kids and teens (gear rental available).
  • Ovintiv Events Centre – From family-friendly concerts to skating events and exhibitions, check the events calendar for what's on.
  • Wayne and Bev Dahlen Walking Track – Get some exercise indoors, free of charge. The Wayne and Bev Dahlen Walking Track is located in the Ovintiv Events Centre and is open to the public. View the schedule online and sign-in at the front desk of KBAC.

Adventure just outside of town

Head out for a mini road trip or outdoor escape.

  • Bear Mountain Nordic Trails – Hiking, mountain biking in summer; cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter.
  • Kiskatinaw Bridge – A scenic stop and historic curved wooden bridge perfect for a photo op and quick nature walk.
  • Swan Lake Provincial Park – Swimming, picnicking, boating, and camping just a half hour away.
